To celebrate St. Patrick's Day tomorrow, I wanted to make something green. I'm usually an all-neautral-kind-of-gal but lately I've been craving bright colors and warmer Spring days.
What is it about S'mores that is so irresistible? Is it the warm gooey marshmallows or the smooth chocolate or the crunch of the graham cracker that keeps bringing us back for more? Maybe it's the actual experience: huddling around a bonfire with friends, toasting marshmallows and licking your lips from the oozing chocolate.
Now that's it's officially fall, it's time for squash to make it's big debut. Butternut, spaghetti, acorn ... let the fun begin!
One of our favorite things to eat late summer is Caprese Salad. A simple stack of sliced fresh ripened tomatoes, a thick slice of mozzarella cheese, homegrown basil and a splash of balsamic vinegar and olive oil makes for the perfect light lunch or side to dinner.
Over the weekend I was invited to a "Sip and See" for one of my friends and her brand new baby. What a lovely Southern tradition ... It's like a mini baby shower but instead of swooning over the baby gifts, you get to swoon over the actual baby. Lovely.
These Lemon Whoopie Pies with Lavender Frosting are my kryptonite. I. love. them. I think part of it has something to do with my latest obsession with lemon.
Today is the first day that it FEELS like spring. It's warm out, the sun is shinning and it makes me excited about upcoming days at the pool. I don't think I've ever been so ready to say goodbye to winter!
Now that you have your Thanksgiving Week Before Checklist completed, it's time for the short week leading up to the big day! In order to have everything prepared for Thursday, I have made a to-do list broken down by the day for the week leading up to Thursday and broken down by the minute on Thanksgiving Day to make sure that I get everything cooked properly.
With Thanksgiving less than two weeks away, preparations have begun. If you read this blog often, you know I'm a sucker for sweets. So why not start off my Thanksgiving preparations with dessert?
With the weather getting cooler, I am craving feel-good comfort foods. This potpie is always first on my list when the fall season hits. It is one of my favorite things my mom made when I was growing up and it always reminds me of her and her cooking. It is creamy and warm with an ultra flakey crust, super hearty and ultimately satisfying.
Well, my week of fall inspired decor and recipes comes to a close with one of my favorites—Pumpkin Snickerdoodles. Not to worry, my obsession with all things fall is sure to continue but I promise to have recipes that don't ALL include pumpkins and squash!
Now that it's officially fall, it's time to take the family to go get pumpkins! I can remember going to pick pumpkins as a kid. My uncle actually had a giant pumpkin patch that we would all run through and collect as many as we could carry.
Jacobs' birthday was this past week and I always make him a birthday cake. His favorite is yellow cake with chocolate frosting. Since we recently took a trip to New York, I have been inspired to make a cake that tastes like Magnolia Bakery's famous cupcakes. There is something so perfect about their cake's light sweet vanilla flavor and the buttery consistency of their icing.
